SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — January 3, 2011 — Papercheck, a leader in editing and proofreading services, announced that the Winter 2011 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund winner is Alyssa King, a sophomore at South Florida University, who is completing pre-nursing requirements as part of the University of South Florida’s Honors College.
Alyssa has always been attracted to the medical field and community service. Alyssa is a volunteer at Largo Medical Center in Largo, Florida. She particularly enjoys interacting with patients and improving their lives in their worst moments. Alyssa has a history of extensive volunteer work and was awarded a Kiwanis Club scholarship as well as the Bright Futures Scholarship, which is based on community involvement, upon high school graduation.
In her spare time, Alyssa enjoys dancing competitively, which she has done for the past 16 years. She also enjoys cooking, sewing, and scrap-booking. In addition to her many extracurricular activities, Alyssa also works 10–15 hours a week as a tutor. She currently tutors students from elementary through high school. Her greatest joy is seeing the academic transformation in her students and the joy it brings the students and their families.
Alyssa’s winning essay outlined the costs and benefits of the Netflix price hikes and its effect on the financial future of the company. Papercheck received over 200 submissions for the winter scholarship award. To be eligible, a student must be an undergraduate in good standing at an accredited four-year U.S. university or college and maintain at least a 3.2 GPA. Papercheck has released a new scholarship topic for Summer 2012:
After posting annual losses in the hundreds of millions for the past three years, the last of the major legacy airlines filed for bankruptcy November 29, 2011. AMR, parent to American Airlines, filed for Chapter 11 in an effort to rid itself of heavy debt and become a better competitor in the airline industry. In addition to filing for bankruptcy, the company announced spending cuts and entered into talks with its unions to decrease labor costs, alarming passengers and workers alike.
