SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — August 1, 2012 — Papercheck, a leader in essay editing services, announced that the Summer 2012 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund winner is John Stanko, an upcoming junior at Texas Tech University, where he is completing a degree in Political Science while minoring in Russian language and area studies.
John has always been interested in political science, particularly the fields of foreign policy and international relations. He hopes to use that along with his passion for Russian in a government foreign service or intelligence agency job after graduate school.
In his spare time, John would love to travel abroad, but stays busy running the Homeschoolers Association at Texas Tech that he founded. He was, himself, homeschooled by his parents for 10 years. That is a major reason he mentioned them first when asked about role models and heroes. John also admires his favorite political science professors at Texas Tech, Dr. Steven Meserbe and Dr. Dennis Patterson. John currently holds a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average at Texas Tech.
John’s winning essay focused on the recent bankruptcy of American Airlines and its effects on the company’s workers, passengers, and the industry itself.
Papercheck received over 100 submissions for the winter scholarship award. Over the same period, social media have become prevalent in civil society worldwide, involving not just teenagers, but many actors, political leaders, and companies.
Please discuss social media’s impact in modern society on any of the following: regular citizens, activists, nongovernmental organizations, telecommunications firms, software providers, governments.
